Page Section widget allows you to start working on a new PDF page. This is also a handy widget if you want to add a background color or image to specific pages of your report.
By default, each widget is placed one underneath the other and when the content doesn't fit in one page it will be automatically pushed to a new one when you print your PDF.
For formatting purposes, you have to make sure that the content of your widgets inside a page fits exactly in one page when you print your PDF report. Otherwise, you have to split the content in more widgets and move them to the new page.
Note that at the PDF editor the page expands automatically, so it is not always clear when you need to add a new page, especially if you use widget logic rules.
The Estimate where page breaks would occur button will help you but it is an estimation and not 100% accurate. You need to click the Preview PDF button to ensure that your widgets fit exactly in one page.
This guide will teach you:
1. Add a new page
To add a new page, all you have to do is click on it and drag and drop it under the current page.
Then you can add your widgets and start building your report.
Your pages will use the margins that you set in the Design tab. Those margins will be the same on all pages. If you would like to have different margins on each page, then remove the margins from the design tab and add margins to your individual pages.
2. Additional settings
Select the page widget and then at the right of the screen click on the gear button. The widget list will be replaced by the additional settings.
If you already have a lot of content in your page and you can't easily select the page to view its settings, then select another widget and click the blue Arrow. This will allow you to quickly select a different layer.
Here you can find the following settings:
- ID
- Name
- Rules
- Margins
- Estimate where page breaks would occur
- Background color
- Background image
- Background repeat
- Background position
- Background size
1. ID
This is the ID of the widget.
2. Name
You can name your widget in order to identify it easier.
3. Rules
You can add your widget logic rules to ensure that your content will be visible only when the conditions are true.
When you click the Edit rule button a new pop-up window will appear.
Select from the dropdown menu the option you want, and then fill in all the required fields. Once you add everything you can click the Submit button.
You can see the rules at the additional settings but not at your page, your content will be normally displayed.
To edit the rule you would have to click on the Edit rule at the settings.
This is the window where you can delete the rule by clicking on the Delete rule button.
4. Margins
Add margins to create space around elements and move them in your page. By default the margins are set to 0, but you can change that anytime and add the margin you prefer.
5. Estimate where page breaks would occur
When you activate this button, you will be able to see a dashed line if your content is more that the available space of your page.
If the dashed line appears, this means that you have to add a new page and then move there all the widgets that touch the line or are placed below it.
Note that this is an estimation, so make sure you click the Preview PDF button to check if your widgets for this page fit inside one single page.
6. Background color
You can change the background color of this specific widget by clicking the color selector.
Once you click it the background color selector will expand and you will be able to select the color you want or add the color hex.
To save just click Apply color.
7. Background image
Click Upload image to add a background image only to this widget.
A new pop-up window will open where you can select the file you want to upload.
You can change the position, the background repeat and background size from the dropdown menu at the settings.
To remove the image you can click the Clear button.
Note that uploaded images are compressed to some degree. Keep in mind that there may be some minor quality loss. In visuals this is hardly noticeable but you might notice it in the text inside of your image.
Uploaded background images can be up to 2MB in size. When the image is larger than 2000 by 2000 pixels, it will be resized so the largest dimension is 800 pixels.
Example: 3000x1500 pixels will be scaled down to 2000x1000 pixels.
Images containing small or thin text are the most sensitive to noticeable quality loss. We recommend putting the text inside of a text widget on top of the image, as explained here.
8. Background repeat
The background repeat property sets how background images are repeated. This is an example of a background image with no repeat.
Here is an example of the same background image with background repeat.
9. Background position
The background position property sets the starting position of a background image. You can select from the dropdown unset, center, left top, left bottom, right top or right bottom.
Here is an example of the right bottom.
10. Background size
The background size property sets the size of the element's background image. You can select from the dropdown unset, cover or contain.
3. Additional buttons
When you click on your page, 4 blue buttons appear.
The Arrow allows you to move between the different layers of the page. For example, if you add a widget in a column then you have 3 layers: the page, the column, and the widget. The arrow allows you to quickly select a different layer.
The second icon, the four arrow sign, allows you to move your widget up or down to the page.
The third icon, the page, allows you to copy this widget, and the forth icon, the bin, to delete it.
