What is a widget and how does it work?

Widgets are different formats of content that you can include in your PDF report. They are the building blocks of your report. A widget can be a block of text, an image, a chart, a table, and more!

Widgets are extremely useful for several reasons:

  • Widgets are a way of displaying data, for example, in graphs or tables, based on the respondent's answer. If you include variables in the data fields of a graph widget or the text widget, it will display customized data from the responses. You could choose to show an answer given to a question, the score from a question or question block, or many other variables. For more information about variables, please see this article.
  • You can create rules so that widgets are only displayed when certain criteria are met. If you want to show a general widget that is visualized every time a PDF report is generated, you can choose not to include a widget logic rule.
  • Decide how you want them laid out on the page - left-aligned, right-aligned, or full page width. This allows you to create a two-columned layout.
  • As your needs change over time, you can simply toggle to turn off widgets, so they will still be available if needed but won't be displayed to respondents. It saves time, and you don't have to recreate them from scratch if you need them again.

Here are a few examples of different widgets that you could use:

What's next?

  • Text widget - Text widgets are absolutely an essential building block of your PDF report. Choose the text widget to write paragraphs or sentences of text to be shown on the report. Use the text widget to give further information about questions, give feedback, or explain a particular answer.
  • Table widget - Add a table to the PDF report to clearly and concisely display results to your respondents.
  • Page or section break - By default, each section (widget) in your PDF report is placed underneath the next, and a new page will start whenever necessary. But for esthetic purposes, it can be handy to start a section on the next page. Use a Page or Section Break widget when you want to have a specific section (widget) starting on a new page. This is also a handy widget if you want to add a background color to specific pages of your report.
